Baker Mayfield (QB – OU) ML: +800
Why We Think Mayfield Will Win The Heisman:
If anybody has mastered college football it’s Baker Mayfield. Last year, Mayfield set an FBS record in efficiency rating (196.4) and completed 70.9% of his passes, first in FBS. The 5th year Sr. has achieved all but two things on his resume, a National Championship and a Heisman. Oklahoma and Mayfield have finished in the Top-5 in both rankings and Heisman votes in consecutive seasons. Mayfield’s final Heisman campaign will resemble that of Marcus Mariota – incredible stats, top-10 teams, progressively getting better each year. Mariota ended up winning a lot of games and put up impressive stats and the Heisman was awarded not only for his individual play that season, but the culmination of overall career success for both he and his team. Oklahoma is once again favored to win the BIG-12 and the dazzling, creatively efficient play of Mayfield will be center stage in all the Sooners offensive success.
Why We Think Mayfield Will Not Win The Heisman:
Mayfield has put up terrific numbers the previous two years. However, Oklahoma also lost a ton of weaponry from a year ago. Samaje Perine, Joe Mixon and Dede Westbrook are playing on Sundays now. Can Oklahoma simply plug in some new pieces and keep the ship sailing or will there be an adjustment period considering the Sooners are also dealing with a new Head Coach in Lincoln Riley? We’ll find out sooner than later as OU takes on Ohio St. in just the 2nd game of the season.
