Week 4, let’s bounce back a little
Well, week 3 brought us a 4-4 record but some of my picks that lost were ugly. Georgia really wowed me and OK St really disappointed me. Penn St played well but they had a tough spread to pick up. And Boise St??? Yikes. The rest of the games didn’t surprise me in the least bit. I had the Washington St vs Nevada game nearly pegged. That said, I’m going to ride a few of my picks again this week.
#7 Georgia (-7.5) at #Tennessee
Two programs headed in different directions clash in Knoxville, TN Saturday afternoon. Georgia is 3-1 against the spread, covering their last 3. Their defense is very fast and controlling. Kirby Smart has the Bulldogs playing ‘Bama style defense and Tennessee struggled to put UMass to bed last week. If there are two things that a road team needs to win and cover it’s a defense and a run game. Georgia checks both boxes… give me Georgia -7.5. Final score 24-9… maybe more.
Indiana at #4 Penn St. (-18.5)
This one has climbed in the past couple days. Indiana has been a bit of a mixed bag but Penn St has been steady and looks like they’re on a mission. Saquon Barkley shined under the lights at Iowa last week and carried his team to a tight victory. It was so Heisman-esque that I’m rolling with him at home to continue. Coach Franklin asked him to go get the Nittany Lions a win and he did all while putting on a show. Can’t wait for the sequel. Indiana is giving up 196 rush yards per game so part 2 should be just as entertaining so get your popcorn ready! 34-13.
Northwestern at #10 Wisconsin (-14.5)
Jonathan Taylor is trying to make a case to be a freshman in the Heisman spotlight. Leading the Big 10 in rushing and #5 in the nation, this dude fits the Wisconsin mold and he’s got two horses ready to pick up any slack behind him. This is a rushing attack that cannot be contained… well at least not by Northwestern on the road. The Badgers are going to “Jump Around” at Camp Randall this weekend. Oh, Wisconsin minus the points. I’m taking Aaron Rodgers favorite college team (even though he went to Cal… odd) 43-10.
Can we get a do over on the Friday Night Special? #5 USC (-2.5) at #16 Washington St
Game of the week? On a Friday? It’ll be up there that’s for sure. Heisman hopefully Sam Darnold is taking USC up to Pullman for their first real road test of the season. The fans will have plenty of time to tailgate and get rowdy for this one… Washington St hasn’t been tested outside of their Boise St battle but after watching Boise get worked by Virginia, I stand by my statement, “Wazu hasn’t been tested.” Darnold is a true Heisman candidate and a big game here against a Mike Leach defense is just what the Darnold ordered. Expect lots of scoring and the Trojans staying in the hunt for trophies…41-27. For those of you keeping track that’s 68. O/U is 65. Hit them both.
Eastern Michigan at Kentucky (-14.5)
How sad was watching Kentucky do everything they could to blow that game and ditch the 31 game losing streak against Florida? I worry a little that Kentucky won’t be able to put this game behind them but it is Eastern Michigan and Kentucky for once looks like they have a decent team that will be competitive in the SEC. I expect them to dig deep and save their coach… again. Kentucky 34-14.
South Carolina at Texas A&M (-9)
This is me saying I don’t like the Gamecocks not one little bit. Can I just pick a game based off me hating them and hope they lose by 21? Yes. I just did. Give me the Aggies at home 40-20. I don’t see enough juice from USC on offense to keep pace and too many big pieces lost for the season. ‘Cock fans crying for Debo!
