Week 9..-.Meat Locks: The Ride or Die Edition

-Keith Lofton

What a week last week, amiright? If only Utah hadn’t forgotten how to play football this could have been a clean sweep. 4-1 and riding high, hence this is the ‘ride or die edition.’ You either have been riding the horse and it’s only going to keep galloping or we’re all falling off (at our pace we just died). Considering I didn’t bet my typically losing Friday night pot roast, I’m gonna add one more notch because sometimes the one you don’t bet, is the best bet you make. Soooo…is that 5-1. If you asked the editor in chief he’d tell you a point like that is how I play golf. 5-1 it is!

Friday Night Pot Roast – Tulane at #24 Memphis (-10.5)

I can’t help it…I’m back to the Friday night.   Well and this time I’ve got a banger of a lock. Memphis -10.5 is so money. This offense is riding so high. After being bottled up and looking a loss right in the face, this offense started clicking in Houston (a tough place to play a night game) and ran wild. Tulane doesn’t have the athletes to keep pace or contain Memphis when they get back in the friendly confines of their home stadium. Look for the Tigers to roll in this one. Memphis 40 – Tulane 24. Put that in your stew and cook it all morning so it’s ready for the big dogs to eat Friday night.

#2 Penn St at #6 Ohio St (-6.5)

I want to stay away from this oh so bad but guys, this is the game of the year so far to date. #2 vs. #6 in a big time Big 10 showdown. Saquon and Co. roll into Columbus this weekend (I’m literally listening to a ‘Weeknd’ song right now…sick) to throw down with the red hot Buckeyes. Wait, aren’t the Nittany Lions red hot? Exactly. Both are riding so high, balling so hard, (insert cliché here) and both are looking at the Final Four. Ohio St is literally in playoff mode right now as another loss will end those playoff hopes while it wouldn’t hurt PSU to lose at the Horseshoe to a very good Buckeye team. If there is one thing that travels well it’s a badass defense and a good running game though and Penn St will pack both in their overnight bags. I’m looking for Penn St to “upset” here and win a squeeker. Give me PSU +6.5 and if you’re feeling really good, hit that ML bet. Penn St wins on the road here 23-20.

Kansas St (-24.5) at Kansas

Have I mentioned how horrid I think Kansas is? Keep riding this wave ’til it hurts you. Kansas St isn’t a world beater but they’re certainly a Jayhawk beater. Ride this Kansas wave ’til basketball season starts. I feel bad for Kansas really but don’t feel bad when you turn in a W. Kansas St 38- Kansas 13. Close cover! But a cover nonetheless.

#4 TCU at #24 Iowa St O/U 58.5

LOCK OF THE WEEK ALERT. Big 10 games under 60 just don’t come around anymore.  Certainly not when the two squads matching up are sub 40 PPG teams. Both defenses are solid but these offenses can both score points and I really believe in this TCU offense. I’m not touching the spread because you never know what kind of weirdness is going to happen in (L)Ames (I got your back Hawkeye fans) so just give me the over and let’s call it a day. These two squads will both score 30+.
Duke at #13 Virginia Tech (-15.5)

Duke is reeling…after starting 4-0 against a cupcake schedule they’ve been getting beat up by more cupcakes. VA Tech in Blacksburg is no cupcake. Same story I told you about them last week against UNC but Duke is a shade better. I’m taking the same score as I picked against the Tarheels. VA Tech rolls 34-9. That’s a banger all day!

Georgia Tech @ #7 Clemson (-14)

Clemson just got beat by Syracuse with a QB that wasn’t right. That felt like weeks ago. After playing a Friday night game and then getting a week off to get Kelly Bryant healthy they get a chance to get back in the win column and do it in front of the home crowd. Georgia Tech is the same team it’s been for too long now…cute option team with no passing game and no 5 star athletes. During the same time Clemson just goes down to ATL and plucks 5 stars right off the vine and plugs them all over the field. Ouch. Now Clemson will put them to work against the Jackets and work them. Clemson is rested, healthy and at home. Tech is beat up and just came off a tough loss in which they threw for 76 yards…ya I know they’re an option team but that’s unacceptable in the ACC. This isn’t Navy vs Army. The Tigers front 7 is as dominant as any in college football and has had no problem with Tech the last few seasons. Look for a beatdown in Death Valley. 41-13.

Those are my picks and they’re meaty. Ride with me to meat heaven…it’s oh so juicy.
